Infochimps Welcomes Jim Kaskade as CEO
Cloud and Big Data Industry Executive Brings Significant Revenue Growth Experience to Leading Big Data Platform Provider.
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) August 28, 2012 – Infochimps, the leading Big Data Platform-as-a-Service provider, today announced that Jim Kaskade has joined the company as CEO. Kaskade will remain in Silicon Valley, expanding both Sales and Marketing, while Joe Kelly, co-founder and interim CEO, will continue on as the company’s Chief Operating Officer, managing Infochimps’ Austin office.
Kaskade joins Infochimps after being an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at PARC, a Xerox company, where he helped advance the Big Data program. His work helped PARC understand how to best integrate its in-memory data processing technologies and high-performance data graph analytics to the burgeoning online services ecosystem, with a focus on predictive analytics for the retail sector. Kaskade also helped build PARC’s Hadoop and Private Cloud platforms.
Kaskade was an early advocate of Platform-as-a-Service at SIOS Technology, Inc., a publicly traded firm headquartered in Japan, where he was Chief of Cloud, and responsible for the company’s corporate cloud strategy, as well as expanding the company’s global footprint in the US.
Prior to SIOS, Kaskade was CEO of StackIQ, a leading cloud startup and Big Data operating system provider. Kaskade started his analytics and data warehousing career at Teradata in 1988 where he initiated Teradata’s in-database analytics and data mining programs, establishing his track record for leading Big Data and cloud technology companies to success at scale.
“There is a significant disruption occurring within the enterprise. If you are data-driven, you will be adopting the new technologies and solutions born within companies like Google, Yahoo!, Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin. These technologies will help manage large volumes of data at scale and do a better job of uncovering business insights efficiently and in real-time,” said Kaskade. “In working with enterprise customers over the years, it has become clear that the market demand for data-centric solutions like those provided by Infochimps are positioned for expansive growth. I couldn’t be more bullish on the opportunity at Infochimps. The team uniformly shares my passion for data and clearly has the experience to lead our customers into this new ‘Data Era’.”
This appointment comes on the heels of recent successes for the company including the release of significant enterprise-grade updates to the Infochimps Platform and the earlier release of Ironfan, the foundation of the Infochimps Big Data stack and core functionality in VMWare’s Project Serengeti.
“Jim’s deep industry experience in the market, his customer relationships, and his proven ability to grow both cloud and Big Data businesses into big successes, make him a perfect fit as CEO of Infochimps,” said Kelly. “The team and I are inspired by Jim’s vision. His joining us as CEO will accelerate Infochimps meaningfully. Jim is the right leader to capitalize on our current momentum and get us to the next stage of company growth.”
The market for Big Data technology and services is projected to reach $50 billion by 2017, offering a significant window of opportunity for Big Data applications in the cloud. To further capitalize on this growth, Infochimps is set to release its offering over an intelligent data network powered by several key infrastructure partners, providing a robust and global cloud service for Fortune 1000 companies who have large amounts of data and are looking to build more intelligent applications in which to leverage it.
“Jim brings a rare combination of practical Big Data expertise, startup leadership experience, and access to talent the world over,” said Aziz Gilani, Director at DFJ Mercury and Infochimps Board member. “He is the perfect leader to help Infochimps as we continue to scale our enterprise offerings.”
Beginning his new role as CEO, Kaskade will be featured at VMworld 2012 as a panelist speaking on the topic of Big Data and Big Analytics discussing how large companies are using Hadoop and other Big Data technologies to deliver new, scalable applications this Wednesday, August 29th in San Francisco.
