The Maponics ZIP+4 database includes all data fields from the source USPS file as well as corresponding Census data, including state, county, tract, and block group codes. The result is a comprehensive ZIP+4 database that can be used for everything from small area demographic analysis to effective micro-targeting campaigns.
The United States Postal Service (USPS) added a 4-digit extension to the standard 5-digit ZIP Code (forming what is often called a 9-digit ZIP Code, or Simply ZIP+4) in the 1980’s to facilitate mail sorting and delivery. Since then, ZIP+4 databases have been used by organizations looking to add more precision to direct marketing efforts.
Most ZIP+4 Databases offered online are simply repackaged address-range lists from the USPS. But the USPS data lacks important information for businesses looking for a comprehensive dataset to enable granular segmentation and geo-targeting capabilities. Specifically, the majority of providers are missing unique ZIP+4 records and most of the latitude and longitude coordinates. To fill in these gaps, Maponics begins with the latest USPS data, leverages years of experience and uses proprietary algorithms to:
- Expand the ZIP+4 ranges into over 59 million unique records while removing duplicate records
- Geocode each ZIP+4 code address range to tag each one with a geographic centroid point (lat/lon)
