U.S. Postal Service Rates for Letters and Postcards: 1995 to 2006

The Statistical Abstract files are distributed by the US Census Department as Microsoft Excel files. These files have data mixed with notes and references, multiple tables per sheet, and, worst of all, the table headers are not easily matched to their rows and columns.

A few files had extraneous characters in the title. These were corrected to be consistent. A few files have a sheet of crufty gibberish in the first slot. The sheet order was shuffled but no data were changed.

The tables that were changed (this is table 1093):

This dataset consists of a table of 20 rows and 13 columns.

In dollars. Rates exclude Canada and Mexico

  1. The rates after the first ounce may differ depending on whether a country is
primarily European; is in a rate group comprising Australia, New Zealand, and Japan; or is
    categorized “rest of the world”.
  2. On January 8, 2006, the process of converting the rates for Micronesia and the Marshall
Islands from the domestic schedule to the international schedule was initiated. During the
transition period, the rates to these two countries have increased and will continue to
increase incrementally until they equal the international rate to the rest of the world.
  3. Discontinued.
