Twitter Census: Twitter Users by Location

Added By Infochimps

Twitter location data from millions of users! This is a free download of Twitter user location data collected from March 2006 to March 2010. The location data comes from analysis on the full set of tweets during that time period, which is 40 million users, 1.6 billion tweets, and more than 1 billion relationships between users.

This dataset has basically two fields: the location field from a person’s Twitter profile and the count of users who have that same string in their location field.

Infochimps uses a tool to “scrape” user profiles, extracting Twitter data. This data set exclusively consists of user location data. Each Twitter user profile contains an open field for “location.” The user may complete this field as they wish. The user location data was taken from the last seen profile state for 40 million users as of March 2010.
