The Statistical Abstract files are distributed by the US Census Department as Microsoft Excel files. These files have data mixed with notes and references, multiple tables per sheet, and, worst of all, the table headers are not easily matched to their rows and columns.

A few files had extraneous characters in the title. These were corrected to be consistent. A few files have a sheet of crufty gibberish in the first slot. The sheet order was shuffled but no data were changed.

This dataset consists of a table of 63 rows and 6 columns.

In billions of dollars (2,229 represents $2,229,000,000,000). Data are the market value of all sales of equities and options listed on an exchange or subject to last-sale reporting. Also reported are the value of such options that were exercised, the value of single-stock futures that were delivered, and the number of round turn contracts in single-stock futures traded on an exchange. Excludes options and futures on indexes.
