The Statistical Abstract files are distributed by the US Census Department as Microsoft Excel files. These files have data mixed with notes and references, multiple tables per sheet, and, worst of all, the table headers are not easily matched to their rows and columns.

A few files had extraneous characters in the title. These were corrected to be consistent. A few files have a sheet of crufty gibberish in the first slot. The sheet order was shuffled but no data were changed.

The tables that were changed (this is table 131):

This dataset consists of a table of 59 rows and 10 columns.

Data are based on National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, a sample of the civilian noninstitutionalized population


  1. Includes persons of all races and Hispanic origins, not just those
    shown separately.
  2. Starting with data year 1999 race-specific estimates are not comparable
    with estimates for earlier years, see footnote 3, Table 156.
  3. Persons of Mexican origin may be of any race.
  4. Age adjusted to the 2000 standard population using four age groups:
    Under 18, 18 to 44, 45 to 64, and 65 years and over. See text Section 2.
