Instead of playing the game of 20 questions, let’s play a game of 28! By using the Personality Insights: OkCupid Questions and Answers by Gender, Age, State, and Metro dataset, you can get to know the OkCupid online dating pool a lot better… without having to worry about who’s going to pay for coffee. Do females in the 18to24 year old age range in Texas conserve more water than females 25to34? Does being a male cat lover correlate geographically with higher self-confidence? Do Californians brush their teeth more than Ohioans? Which MSA has the cleanest towels? Answer these questions and more.

The data columns include country, state or MSA, age group, gender, question ID, and quantity of individuals that chose each answer choice (1 through 4). There is a separate index file containing all the questions IDs, question text, and answer text. There are 28 questions in total.

Detailed Description

The OkCupid dataset ZIP contains three TSV files and two Excel files:

• question_text.tsv (4 KB) list of the 28 questions and answers
• msa_data.tsv (185,725 rows // 5.5 MB) – answer data, organized by MSA, age and gender
• msa_data.xls (185,725 rows // 19.7 MB) – answer data, organized by MSA, age and gender + pivot table
• state_data.tsv (12,026 rows // 369 KB) – answer data, organized by state, age and gender
• state_data.xls (12,026 rows // 2.2 MB) – answer data, organized by state, age and gender + pivot table

The data is aggregated by Gender, Age Range, MSA, and State, not by individual person.

A list of MSAs, as provided by the Census Bureau. For this dataset, an MSA of “0” represents OkCupid question responses that were outside of any MSA zone.

• Do you keep a budget (of your finances)? Yes. No. Sometimes.
• Which of these sources do you turn to first for information about what is going on in politics? Fox News. CNN. MSNBC. None of these.
• How do you feel about falling in love? I love it and want it very much. I try to avoid it. I like to just let it happen. I’m indifferent / not sure.
• Rate your self-confidence: Very, very high. Higher than average. Average. Below average.
• How much influence or control do your parents have over your life? I am my own person. I consider their opinion but go my own way. I almost always do what my parents think is best. I always do what my parents say.
• Are you looking for a partner to have children with? Yes. No.
