The Statistical Abstract files are distributed by the US Census Department as Microsoft Excel files. These files have data mixed with notes and references, multiple tables per sheet, and, worst of all, the table headers are not easily matched to their rows and columns.

A few files had extraneous characters in the title. These were corrected to be consistent. A few files have a sheet of crufty gibberish in the first slot. The sheet order was shuffled but no data were changed.

The tables that were changed (this is table 724):

This dataset consists of a table of 20 rows and 1 columns.

In billions of dollars (22 represents $22,000,000,000) except as indicated. All figures are estimates based on samples. Tax law changes have affected the comparability of the data over time; see Statistics of Income reports for a description. See Appendix III

  1. Includes other amounts not shown separately.
  2. After adjustment for the passive loss carryover from prior years.
Therefore, “business receipts” minus “total deductions” do not equal “net income”.
  3. Constant dollars are based on the overall implicit price deflator for gross domestic
product computed and reported by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of
Economic Analysis, in the Survey of Current Business. The deflator represents
the annual average of current-weighted prices, based on 2000 = 100.
