Dataset
Money Income of People -- Selected Characteristics by Current Income Level: 2005
The Statistical Abstract files are distributed by the US Census Department as Microsoft Excel files. These files have data mixed with notes and references, multiple tables per sheet, and, worst of all, the table headers are not easily matched to their rows and columns.
A few files had extraneous characters in the title. These were corrected to be consistent. A few files have a sheet of crufty gibberish in the first slot. The sheet order was shuffled but no data were changed.
The tables that were changed (this is table 680):

This dataset consists of a table of 138 rows and 13 columns.
People as of March of following year. Covers people 15 years old and over. Median income in constant dollars based on CPI-U-RS deflator. For definition of median, see Guide to Tabular Presentation. Based on the Current Population Survey (CPS), see Appendix III and summary below. The 2006 CPS allowed respondents to choose more than one race. For 2005, data represent persons who selected this race group only and excludes persons reporting more than one race. The CPS in prior years allowed respondents to report only one race group. See also comments on race in the text for Section 1, Population
