Deportable Aliens Located: 1925 to 2005

The Statistical Abstract files are distributed by the US Census Department as Microsoft Excel files. These files have data mixed with notes and references, multiple tables per sheet, and, worst of all, the table headers are not easily matched to their rows and columns.

A few files had extraneous characters in the title. These were corrected to be consistent. A few files have a sheet of crufty gibberish in the first slot. The sheet order was shuffled but no data were changed.

This dataset consists of a table of 85 rows and 2 columns.

Includes all Border Patrol apprehensions and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) administrative apprehensions along with criminal arrests for fiscal years 1925 to 2003. Beginning in fiscal year 2004, excludes ICE criminal arrests. The number of aliens apprehended were first recorded in 1925. Prior to 1960 and after 1986 total deportable aliens located do not includes nonwillful violator crewmen who violated the conditions of their stay in the United States because their vessel did not leave the United States within 29 days. For purposes of statistical reporting there is no difference between the terms “apprehension” and “deportable alien located”

    because the end date of fiscal years was changed from June 30 to
    September 30.
