Death Rates From Cerebrovascular Diseases by Sex and Age: 1950 to 2004

The Statistical Abstract files are distributed by the US Census Department as Microsoft Excel files. These files have data mixed with notes and references, multiple tables per sheet, and, worst of all, the table headers are not easily matched to their rows and columns.

A few files had extraneous characters in the title. These were corrected to be consistent. A few files have a sheet of crufty gibberish in the first slot. The sheet order was shuffled but no data were changed.

The tables that were changed (this is table 116):

This dataset consists of a table of 95 rows and 17 columns.

Rates per 100,000 population; see headnote, Table 101. Beginning 1999 deaths classified according to tenth revision of International Classification of Diseases; for earlier years, causes of death were classified according to the revisions then in use. Changes in classification of causes of death due to these revisions may result in discontinuities in cause-of-death trends. See Appendix III

  1. Includes deaths of persons who were not residents of the 50 States and the District of Columbia.
  2. In 1950 rate is for the age group 75 years and over.
  3. Excludes data from States lacking an Hispanic-origin item on their death certificates. See Appendix I, National Vital Statistics System.
