Christian Church Adherents, 2000, and Jewish Population, 2004 - States
Overview
The Statistical Abstract files are distributed by the US Census Department as Microsoft Excel files. These files have data mixed with notes and references, multiple tables per sheet, and, worst of all, the table headers are not easily matched to their rows and columns.
A few files had extraneous characters in the title. These were corrected to be consistent. A few files have a sheet of crufty gibberish in the first slot. The sheet order was shuffled but no data were changed.
The tables that were changed (this is table 76):

This dataset consists of a table of 74 rows and 8 columns.
111,736 represents 111,736,000. Christian church adherents were defined as “all members, including full members, their children and the estimated number of other regular participants who are not considered as communicant, confirmed or full members.” 1990 data on Christian church adherents are based on reports of 133 church groupings and exclude 34 church bodies that reported more than 100,000 members to the Yearbook of American and Canadian Churches. The Jewish population includes Jews who define themselves as Jewish by religion as well as those who define themselves as Jewish in cultural terms. Data on Jewish population are based primarily on a compilation of individual estimates made by local Jewish federations. Additionally, most large communities have completed Jewish demographic surveys from which the Jewish population can be determined. FIPS=Federal Information Processing Standards
