Children Under 18 Years Old by Presence of Parents: 1970 to 2006

The Statistical Abstract files are distributed by the US Census Department as Microsoft Excel files. These files have data mixed with notes and references, multiple tables per sheet, and, worst of all, the table headers are not easily matched to their rows and columns.

A few files had extraneous characters in the title. These were corrected to be consistent. A few files have a sheet of crufty gibberish in the first slot. The sheet order was shuffled but no data were changed.

The tables that were changed (this is table 65):

This dataset consists of a table of 128 rows and 28 columns.

As of March. Excludes persons under 18 years old who maintained households or family groups and their spouses. Based on Current Population Survey; includes members of Armed Forces living off post or with their families on post, but excludes all other members of Armed Forces; see text, this section, and Appendix III

  1. Includes other races not shown separately.
  2. Beginning with the 2003 Current Population Survey (CPS) respondents could choose more than one race.
Beginning in 2003, data represent persons who selected this race group only and exclude persons
reporting more than one race. The CPS in prior years only allowed respondents to report one
race group. See also comments on race in the text for this section.
  3. Hispanic persons may be of any race.
